夢海深秋 Vera Dreams of the Sea
Inspired by her divorced mother’s struggle, Krasniqi’s narrative feature debut is an intimate portrait of a woman battling against a ruthless patriarchal society. Disrupted by her husband’s suicide, Vera, a middle-aged sign language interpreter, becomes entangled in an underworld scheme to claim their village house. As much a probing character study as it is a social critique, this nervy yet affecting story asserts women’s resilience against becoming collateral damage. Grand Prix, Tokyo International Film Festival.
