報告 The Report

1h 49m 大師級 The Masters 1977

A hidden gem, this early Kiarostami film is an intriguing drama full of prerevolutionary disquiet. Offering a rare glimpse into middle-class life of Tehran in the 1970s, this story of a civil servant accused of taking bribes, and dealing with the collapse of his marriage, is analogous of the crumbling state of Iran, as apathy and corruption take hold. Shot in a visually realistic style, this “self-portrait” – as the director describes it – plays out like a premonition of the social unrest which erupted into the 1979 Revolution.
